Wow! We’ve been in Guatemala for only a week so far and the Lord has already amazed me with this place. Literally 5 min after driving away from the airport God gave me this overwhelming sense of peace and gratitude. I can’t really explain it much better than Guatemala just feels right. This country is truly something special and I can’t wait to see what the Lord teaches me in my time here.
When we arrived in Guatemala my squad had the opportunity to stay at Casa De Fuego for the night. Casa De Fuego sits between 3 different volcanoes. Two of these volcanoes are dormant and one is active. The active one is called Fuego and it erupts every 5-15 minutes. It was so special to sit and watch this volcano erupt all evening and into the night with my squad. As the sky got darker you could see the bright orange lava erupting from the top of Fuego. God also gave us a sky full of stars this night. It was such a sweet gift! We were star gazing and volcano watching when all of a sudden the longest shooting star I’ve ever seen shot across the sky right as the volcano erupted. I’ve never seen something so amazing or beautiful in all my life. The abundance of joy and excitement that came from my squad while watching this, will be something I never forget.
Some of us had the idea of sleeping on the roof so that we could look at the stars and watch the volcano. We also thought it would be perfect because we didn’t even have to get out of bed to see the sun rise in the morning, haha! There were 4 of us who slept on the roof and it was such a sweet time. This was probably my favorite memory so far. We got to talk, watch the volcano and stargaze all night. I’ll add some pictures below from this fun roof top adventure.
God showed us so much love our first night in Guatemala (also everyday after). He showed us the beauty of his creation and the beauty of community. Getting to experience and see the wonders of His creation is always amazing. However, getting to experience it with 45 brothers and sisters makes it so much sweeter! God loves us SO much! I fully believe that this season of the WR is going to be full of God’s love and all His glory. I’m so excited to see more of how God shows us how good He is during our time here. His love really is all around us, sometimes you just have to intentionally seek it out or change your perspective.
This place already feels like home and the people we have met already feel like family. Guatemala definitely has my heart! <3
Love,
Bri
